We Asked

As part of our planning process, we asked you as users accessing Dalby Forest for your thoughts on how a possible new traffic management system may work. The online survey ran from 28 July 2014 to 30 September 2014.

You Said

We received just over 300 responses, electronic and paper copies. Feedback was also collated from two drop-in sessions for stakeholders.

We Did

We analysed the survey responses and feedback from the stakeholder sessions. We shared this information with an independent traffic consultant. A tender for the procurement of a new entry system has started and a planning application has been submitted to the North York Moors National Park.

Traffic management at Dalby Forest

The Forestry Commission regularly reviews traffic management across the Estate and makes necessary improvements.

Traffic management at Dalby Forest has been problematic for various reasons including:

  • Irresponsible parking
  • Traffic flow issues
  • Admission charge non-payment
  • Out of hours access.
     

Why We Are Consulting

The Forestry Commission actively reinvests proceeds from the Dalby Forest entry fee into maintaining the forest and providing a safe, rewarding experience for all visitors. We’re now considering an automated vehicle entry system and a new car park to:

  • better control access
  • make sure that users in vehicles are paying 
  • help ensure that those entering the forest use it responsibly.
     

As part of our planning process, we’re asking you as users accessing Dalby Forest for your thoughts on how this will work. The survey will be live until 5pm, Friday 26 September 2014.
 

What Happens Next

We’re holding a drop-in session for stakeholders and interested parties on Tuesday, 19 August at the Dalby Forest visitor centre from 3pm-7pm. Please indicate on the questionnaire whether you plan to attend.
